About NSD files
The .NSD file extension primarily represents a Nassi-Shneiderman Diagram file used by the Structorizer application. These files store structured flowcharts representing software algorithms in an underlying XML format. A secondary use for .NSD files is as a Ship Stowage Planning Data file utilized by maritime logistics software like Navis MACS3 or Autodesk Navisworks. Users often need to convert these files because both formats rely on highly specific software. Structorizer diagrams require the original desktop app to render the flowchart visually; if opened in a basic text editor, you only see raw XML code. Navis maritime files are proprietary data containers detailing cargo vessel loadout plans, making them inaccessible to standard office applications. Sharing these files with stakeholders who lack specialized logistics software is impossible without exporting to standard formats. For diagram files, the best conversion targets are PNG, PDF, or SVG for visual sharing, while the raw structure is saved as XML. Stowage data is best converted to CSV or TXT. Because these are niche formats, standard online converters often fail to process them. If our analysis detects the supported XML structure of a diagram, we can extract the text or facilitate a conversion when possible.

The NSD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NSD converter.
