About NSBMD files

The .nsbmd file is a compiled 3D model asset used exclusively in Nintendo DS video games. It stores vertex data, polygon definitions, materials, and sometimes embedded textures. Developers originally created these files using official Nintendo SDK tools.

To view or modify these files today, users typically rely on community-built reverse-engineering software like Apicula or MKDS Course Modifier.

Because it is a closed, proprietary game asset, it comes with major disadvantages for modern workflows. You cannot natively open an .nsbmd file in standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya. The data is compiled specifically for the NDS hardware processor, meaning standard online converters will fail to process it.

To edit these models, you must convert the .nsbmd to standard formats like OBJ, DAE (Collada), or FBX. Note that during conversion, console-specific shaders and complex animation rigging are frequently lost or broken.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software or specialized ROM hacking tools can properly read the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NSBMD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BMD0, NSBTX, NSBCA, MOD, BIN and OBJ files.

The NSBMD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NSBMD converter.
