About NSBTX files

The .nsbtx file is a Nintendo DS Model Texture file. It is used inside Nintendo DS game ROMs to store 2D texture data that is mapped onto 3D models. These files are part of the Nitro System SDK used by developers.

Because it is a proprietary and heavily compressed format designed strictly for 2000s handheld console hardware, standard image editors cannot read it. It relies on a split structure where the image data and color palettes are stored separately to save VRAM. This makes the .nsbtx file useless on modern operating systems without specialized ROM hacking tools like Tinke or Apicula.

If you want to view or edit these textures, you must convert the .nsbtx file into a standard raster image. The best target format is PNG, as it natively supports the transparency (alpha channels) frequently used in video game sprites and textures. BMP is another option if you need raw, uncompressed pixels.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert online. It is a closed, proprietary format, and standard online image converters fail to process it because they lack the necessary Nitro System decoders. Often, only specialized extraction software can properly combine the raw pixel data with its associated palette.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NSBTX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
