About NSA files
The .NSA file extension primarily represents a Noteshelf Notebook Archive, a proprietary backup format created by the Noteshelf digital note-taking app. These files are essentially ZIP containers holding a collection of page images, audio recordings, and metadata that reconstruct a notebook within the Noteshelf Android ecosystem. Users typically encounter this file when they export a notebook using the "Share as .nsa" option, intended for transferring data between devices running the app.
The key problem is that .NSA files are not cross-compatible with standard desktop software like Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat. A user who emails an .nsa file to their Windows PC or Mac will find it impossible to open without specific knowledge. While the intended method to view these notes is to import them back into Noteshelf and re-export as PDF, a practical workaround exists: since the file is a disguised archive, renaming the extension from .NSA to ZIP often allows users to extract and view the individual raw page images (PNG or JPG) and audio clips directly.
In rare legacy cases (less than 1%), an .NSA file may be a Nullsoft Streaming Audio file, an obsolete container used by Winamp for streaming media over low-bandwidth connections in the early 2000s.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NSA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NSA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NSA converter.
