About NRU files

The .NRU file is a Nero UDF Disc Compilation used primarily to save optical disc layouts and burning configurations. Created by Nero Burning ROM (Wikipedia), these files define the file system structure for CDs and DVDs using the Universal Disk Format (UDF). They can act as pure project files pointing to local assets via internal UTF-16 (LE) text, or as disc image files containing the actual data payload. Users often need to convert .NRU files because the format is highly proprietary and extremely restrictive. You cannot natively mount a .NRU file using modern operating systems like Windows or macOS. Users are often forced to install heavy, commercial software just to access a simple disc compilation. The best conversion target for a .NRU file is the universal ISO disk image format, which is natively supported by virtually all modern virtual drives and operating systems. Converting this file format is inherently difficult because it relies on a closed, undocumented structure to encode the UDF layout.
