About NMMM files

The .NMMM file format serves two completely different purposes: it is either a legitimate backup of memos created by Samsung Smart Switch and Samsung Notes, or it is a victim file encrypted by the NMoreira or Xorist ransomware. Legitimate Samsung memo backups are standard ZIP archives disguised with a proprietary extension. Ransomware variants are highly encrypted RAR archives designed to extort money from users. Users typically encounter legitimate .NMMM files when transferring data from an old Samsung Galaxy phone to a PC. The main disadvantage of this format is its strict tie to the Samsung ecosystem. You cannot natively double-click these files on a Windows or Mac computer to read your notes. To access the data, you must either restore the file to a Samsung device or manually bypass the proprietary extension. If you want to read your notes on a PC, your best conversion targets are standard ZIP, TXT, or JPG. Because the legitimate file is a renamed ZIP container, you can extract the internal text and images, which can then be assembled into a PDF.
