About NC1 files

A .NC1 file is a specialized CNC fabrication instruction set widely used in the structural steel industry. Based on the DSTV (Deutscher Stahlbau-Verband) standard, these ASCII text files define the geometry, drilling patterns, and saw cuts for steel profiles like I-beams, angles, and plates. They are typically generated by BIM software such as Tekla Structures or AutoCAD (via add-ons) to control automated machinery.

The Problem: While .NC1 files are technically human-readable text, interpreting the coordinate blocks (e.g., 'BO' for holes, 'AK' for contours) is impossible for humans and unsupported by standard CAD viewers. Engineers and fabricators frequently struggle because they cannot visually verify the part geometry, check hole locations, or share the design with clients who lack expensive CAM software.

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your NC1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NC, DXF, CNC, DWG, XSR, PNG, TTF, STEP, PDF, H5P, ENC, TXT and SLDPRT files.

The NC1 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NC1 converter.
