About NBD files
The .nbd extension represents a split personality in the digital world, creating significant confusion for users. Primarily, it serves as a proprietary Backup Archive generated by utilities like Nero BackItUp or NovaBACKUP. These files act as rigid containers for your system snapshots or file backups. The core disadvantage here is strictly proprietary lock-in: an .nbd file is useless without the specific version of the software that created it. You cannot simply double-click to view the contents, nor can you open it in Microsoft Word or WinRAR. To "convert" this data, you must typically restore the backup to a temporary folder and then re-archive the loose files into a universal format like ZIP or 7Z.
In a completely different context - specifically for gamers and modders - the .nbd file is a 3D Model asset used by the MT Framework engine (developed by Capcom). Found in titles like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, these files contain rigging, mesh, and bone data. Modders frequently need to convert these .nbd assets into editable 3D formats like FBX or OBJ to modify characters or props in Blender or Autodesk Maya.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NBD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NBD file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use Nero BackItUp or similar software from the "Backup Archive / Game Model" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to NBD, try Nero BackItUp or another comparable tool in the "Backup Archive / Game Model" category.
The NBD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NBD converter.
