A .NB0 file is a raw binary firmware image, predominantly used in embedded systems development for Windows CE devices, Nuvoton microcontrollers, and select Nokia (HMD Global) smartphones. Unlike standard executable files, the .NB0 format is a flat memory dump - literally a byte-for-byte copy of what resides in the device's RAM or flash memory - lacking the structured headers or checksums found in record-based formats like BIN or SREC.
Because .NB0 files are designed to be written directly to specific memory addresses, they are notoriously difficult to work with on a standard PC. Users often encounter them when attempting to unbrick a device or analyze a bootloader, only to find that standard archive tools like 7-Zip cannot extract them, and text editors display unreadable garbage. To analyze the code or reverse-engineer the firmware, developers typically convert .NB0 to HEX (Intel Hex) or wrap it into a structured BIN format.
