To convert other file formats to the "Process Mining Log File" file type, you need software like ProM or a similar tool.
An .MXML file primarily serves two completely different technical functions: it is either a Mining XML event log used to analyze business processes, or it is a legacy User Interface markup file built for the discontinued Adobe Flex framework. Less commonly, it functions as a proprietary ZIP-compressed ship loading condition file used by Navis MACS3 loading computers.
You can open and analyze process mining logs using academic and commercial tools like ProM. Legacy Flex markup files are essentially text documents designed to be edited in IDEs like Adobe Flash Builder or any standard code editor.
The .MXML format presents several real-world disadvantages. For process mining, the format is bulky, outdated, and largely superseded by the modern IEEE standard XES. These XML-based logs frequently exceed gigabytes in size, causing standard text editors to freeze or crash instantly. For developers, Flex .MXML relies on dead Flash technology, meaning it requires paid subscriptions or obsolete runtimes to compile and is completely unsupported by modern web browsers. Furthermore, MACS3 files are closed, proprietary data containers that lock you out without the native software.
Converting .MXML depends entirely on its source. Process logs should be converted to XES for compatibility with modern mining tools, or flattened to CSV for database ingestion, though you may lose complex hierarchical event relationships. Flex UI files can be converted to TXT to salvage the raw code, which must then be manually rewritten into modern .HTML5 and JS.
These varied structures make the format notoriously difficult to convert automatically. Online tools fail because they cannot parse giant process schemas or proprietary ZIP containers. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects standard XML text or an embedded archive, viewing or extraction is usually possible.
