About MWF files
The .mwf extension is a fragmented format most commonly associated with proprietary waveform data generated by automotive oscilloscopes (like Motor-Tester or PicoScope) and medical ECG devices (like Nihon Kohden). In these contexts, the file contains raw voltage-over-time measurements used for diagnosing engine faults or monitoring heart rhythms.
For mechanics and technicians, the biggest difficulty is that .mwf files are locked to the specific diagnostic software that created them. You cannot simply double-click to open them in Microsoft Excel to analyze the data, nor can you view the waveform graph in a web browser or email it to a client as a visible image. This proprietary lock-in makes sharing diagnostic results or archiving medical records difficult. Users frequently need to convert these files to CSV or XLSX to manipulate the raw data points, or to PDF and PNG to share a visual report of the waveform trace.
A secondary, legacy use case is the MapWindow File created by Autodesk MapGuide Author. These files define the layers and window settings for older GIS map projects. Since this software has been superseded by newer web mapping technologies, opening old .mwf project files often requires outdated environments or conversion to modern GIS formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MWF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted WMF, JPG, PSDATA, VSM and WBF files.
The MWF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MWF converter.
