About VSM files

The .vsm file extension is a multi-use format most commonly functioning as a Simulation block diagram file created by VisSim (now Altair Embed) or an Automotive oscilloscope waveform capture generated by diagnostic software like PicoScope. It is also utilized for Mine ventilation simulation models by VentSim, compiled menu scripts in Vectorworks, and volleyball match scouting data in VolleyStation. These files contain highly specialized industry data, making them extremely impractical to share with clients, mechanics, or engineers who do not own the expensive, proprietary software required to view them. Standard computers and web browsers cannot natively render these diagnostic waveforms or 3D ventilation models. To analyze or report on this data, users typically need to convert the files. For oscilloscope data, exporting to CSV is best for spreadsheet analysis, while PDF is ideal for static reports. For VentSim models, exporting geometry to DXF or DWG allows CAD integration, though dynamic simulation parameters will be lost. Because .vsm files are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters consistently fail to process them. Often, only the original software can accurately read or export the raw data. Our system inspects the internal file structure - and since some .vsm files are essentially compressed GZIP archives (VentSim) or plain text JSON (VolleyStation) - if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the content may still be entirely possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VSM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, ASPX, TDX, TVD and TRD files.

The VSM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VSM converter.
