About MVL files
The .MVL file extension is predominantly used as a 3D/4D Ultrasound Volume File generated by GE Healthcare's Voluson series of ultrasound machines. These files store raw, multi-dimensional medical imaging data, typically capturing high-detail fetal scans in clinics. To a lesser degree, the extension is also used for ZwickRoell testXpert raw materials testing data or VisualBoyAdvance-M emulator movie recordings. Users desperately need to convert medical .MVL files because this proprietary format cannot be natively opened on standard smartphones, tablets, or home computers. Sharing a baby's 4D scan with family becomes a frustrating hurdle, as typical media players completely fail to recognize the format. The ideal target formats for these files are standard video files like AVI or MP4, or standard medical formats like DICOM. However, because the .MVL file is built on a proprietary Microsoft Compound structure containing raw 3D spatial point data rather than flat, standard video frames, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert using generic tools. Standard online converters crash or output errors because they expect video streams, not volumetric medical coordinates. Often, only the original clinical software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
