About CVL files

The .cvl extension represents a split ecosystem of specialized data files, primarily used in legal and real estate industries. Most commonly (approx. 40%), it is a Courtroom Log File generated by Justice AV Solutions (JAVS) software. These files are technically XML containers that timestamp events during court proceedings, synchronizing text notes with audio/video recordings. The catch is that a raw .cvl file is often meaningless without the accompanying media (AVI, WMV) or the proprietary JAVS Viewer. Users frequently need to convert these logs to PDF or TXT to make the legal annotations readable without installing the full JAVS suite.

Alternatively (approx. 20%), a .cvl file may be a Commercial Real Estate Valuation file created by ARGUS (now Altus Group). These files contain complex financial modeling data for property appraisal. Users often struggle to open older .cvl datasets in modern ARGUS Enterprise cloud solutions, necessitating a conversion to Excel (.XLSX) or a newer exchange format to migrate the valuation data. Less common uses include Coastal Vector Line files used in GIS mapping, which require specialized scientific tools to view.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CVL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PLOT, MC and BDG files.
