About MSU files

The .MSU file is a Windows Update Standalone Installer package. Microsoft uses this format to deliver offline system updates, security patches, and hotfixes to Windows users. The native tool to open and execute this file is the Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe). The main disadvantage of the .MSU format is its opacity. It is a proprietary update container that users cannot easily inspect without running the installer, which carries the risk of blindly altering system files. Standard online converters fail to process it because the format is strictly bound to the Windows operating system architecture. System administrators often need to extract the file to target formats like CAB (Cabinet files) or XML to audit the metadata or deploy the patch offline using DISM. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MSU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EXE, MSI, APKG, ZIP, DMP, DAT, DB, CAB and ISO files.
