About MON files

The .MON file extension is highly fragmented and confusing because multiple systems use it for completely different purposes. Its most common uses include Datalogger monitoring data for environmental tracking, tax data submission archives for the BIR Alphalist system, and proprietary MDVR video recordings. You might need specialized software like the original MDVR96NT DVR Platform for video playback, or Steinberg WaveLab for audio montages. However, the BIR Alphalist tax files are actually just standard ZIP archives disguised with a different extension. The main disadvantage of .MON files is this extreme ambiguity. Your operating system rarely knows what program to open them with by default. Proprietary video and data log files are locked into specific, often outdated, software ecosystems. You cannot natively view them in a web browser, and sharing them usually causes "unsupported file" errors for the recipient. For tax data files, the best solution is to rename the extension to ZIP to extract the contents. For video recordings, you must convert to MP4 for universal playback.
