About ROW files

A .row file is most frequently a raw binary data file generated by Teledyne RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP). These files contain the unprocessed hydroacoustic measurements - including water velocity, echo intensity, and correlation data - recorded directly from the instrument during river or ocean surveys. The primary disadvantage of the .row format is its raw binary nature; it is unreadable by standard tools like Microsoft Excel or text editors. To make sense of the data, users are typically forced to use proprietary software like WinRiver II or VmDas to parse the binary stream. For practical analysis, these files must be converted to CSV, TXT, or MAT (for MATLAB).

In a completely different context, a .row file may be a game asset used in older simulations like Silent Hunter III or scenery definitions for X-Plane. In these cases, the file represents raw texture rows or coordinate data. Modders often struggle to view these files without specialized unpacking tools. Converting these game assets to standard images like PNG or TGA allows for easy viewing and editing in Adobe Photoshop.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ROW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SM3, ZDX and MON files.

The ROW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROW converter.
