About MODULE files

The .module file extension serves multiple, entirely separate purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly, it acts as a game data file for Halo Infinite or a modification definition file for real-time strategy games like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. In developer environments, a .module file might contain Drupal CMS PHP scripts, Gradle build metadata formatted in JSON, or even AI storytelling text modules for NovelAI. Additionally, the EncounterPlus virtual tabletop app uses this extension as a renamed ZIP archive to store role-playing game assets.

Because the .module extension is severely fragmented across industries, the biggest challenge is simply knowing what is inside. A .module file from Warhammer will fail to open in Drupal or EncounterPlus. Game-specific modules are often compiled or proprietary, meaning you cannot easily read them without the original game engine. Furthermore, sharing these files directly often triggers security warnings or is blocked by email providers, and trying to open a 500MB VTT asset file in a text editor will crash your system.

To inspect, edit, or extract the contents, conversion is usually necessary. For EncounterPlus modules, convert to ZIP to safely extract the underlying images and maps. For Gradle or NovelAI files, convert to JSON or TXT to read the raw code.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MODULE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted INFO, IML, MDE and JS files.
