The .MMO file extension generally serves two distinctly different, yet equally frustrating, proprietary purposes. Most commonly, it is a Data Memo File used by the PC SOFT WINDEV development environment. In this context, it stores large text, binary, or image objects linked to a HyperFileSQL (HFSQL) database. Alternatively, it is a Memory-Map Overlay File used by Memory-Map GPS software to store waypoints, tracks, and routes. Less frequently, it acts as an expenditure invoice for Memo Office accounting, or a gameplay movie file for the Mesen NES emulator.
The primary disadvantage of the .MMO format is its strictly proprietary nature. WINDEV memo files are useless without the accompanying FIC database file, making external extraction nearly impossible without writing custom database queries. Similarly, Memory-Map locks your GPS data into its closed ecosystem, preventing you from natively opening your routes in modern mobile apps or Google Earth. These formats are not supported by web browsers and often require expensive software licenses to access.
If you need to share your GPS routes, the best target format is GPX or KML. However, converting these files typically requires exporting directly from the original software. Standard online converters inevitably fail to process .MMO files because the data structures are undocumented and closed-source.
