The .MMB file is primarily a personal finance database used by Money Manager Ex. It stores transaction histories, bank accounts, and budgets in a structured format. Other software uses this exact extension for highly specialized, unrelated tasks, such as 3D game character models in the Ubisoft Snowdrop Engine, CNC machine models in hyperMILL, and budget data in Movie Magic Budgeting.
The main disadvantage of the .MMB format is its heavily fragmented nature. Because multiple applications use the same file extension, operating systems frequently fail to identify the correct program to open it. Additionally, while the finance version is a standard SQLite database, the 3D models and CNC files are closed, proprietary binary formats. You cannot view them in a standard web browser, and they require expensive or internal software to read. They are virtually impossible to share with external users who lack the specific software ecosystem.
You usually need to convert .MMB files to extract the underlying data. For financial databases, converting to CSV or SQL allows you to import your raw transaction records into Microsoft Excel or other modern accounting suites.
