Convert OMN to another file type

To convert OMN files to another format, you need OmniPage or other Data software.

Convert a file to OMN

To convert other file formats to the "Ontology & OCR Document" file type, you need software like OmniPage or a similar tool.

About OMN files

The .OMN file extension represents multiple, completely unrelated file formats. Primarily, it is an OWL Manchester Syntax Ontology or Ontology Markup Language file used by software like OntoStudio or Visual Narrator for semantic web modeling. Alternatively, it is a proprietary OCR document format created by OmniPage Pro, a flow analysis data file generated by OI Analytical Omnion, or a slope stability model from GEOSLOPE SLOPE/W.

The primary disadvantage of the .OMN format is its extreme fragmentation. A user receiving an .OMN file cannot easily determine its origin without analyzing the internal file headers. OmniPage files lock your scanned document layouts inside a closed ecosystem that requires specific software to view. Omnion flow analysis files rely on specialized data structures, while slope stability models require expensive engineering tools.

Users frequently need to convert .OMN files to escape these software limitations. OmniPage documents should be converted to PDF, DOCX, or RTF to make the OCR-extracted text accessible to standard word processors. Ontology .OMN files are better converted to standard OWL, RDF, or XML formats for broader semantic web interoperability.

Because this file format is heavily fragmented and difficult to open or convert, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can use convert.guru to inspect the file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as plain text in an ontology file or JetDB tables in an analytical file - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OMN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MSA, MMB and OPD files.

FAQ

If you want to convert OMN file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use OmniPage or similar software from the "Ontology Modeling & OCR Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to OMN, try OmniPage or another comparable tool in the "Ontology Modeling & OCR Data" category.

The OMN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OMN converter.
