About MIX files
The .mix file extension primarily represents the Microsoft Image Exchange format, a legacy vector/raster hybrid used by discontinued software like Microsoft PhotoDraw and Picture It!. These files are essentially OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) containers that wrap standard image data in a proprietary shell, making them impossible to open with modern tools like Photoshop or standard web browsers. Users typically encounter these when trying to access old family photos or design projects from the Windows 98/XP era. To view or edit these memories, you must convert the proprietary container into a standard format like JPG or PNG for web use, or PDF and TIFF for archiving layered data.
Note: A smaller subset of .mix files are data archives used in games like Command & Conquer (by Westwood Studios) or mod files for Warcraft III. These are not images but package files similar to ZIP archives that store game assets and cannot be converted to images.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your MIX file.
If you want to convert MIX file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL or PLY, you can use Microsoft PhotoDraw or similar software from the "Legacy Vector/Raster Graphics" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to MIX, try Microsoft PhotoDraw or another comparable tool in the "Legacy Vector/Raster Graphics" category.
The MIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MIX converter.
