Convert a file to MINDNODE
To convert other file formats to the "Mind Map Document" file type, you need software like MindNode or a similar tool.
About MINDNODE files
The .mindnode file extension represents a mind map document created by MindNode, a brainstorming and visualization application built exclusively for macOS and iOS. These files store hierarchical data, nodes, branch relationships, styled text, and embedded images, organizing thoughts into a visual tree structure.
The primary disadvantage of a .MINDNODE file is its extreme platform lock-in. It is a proprietary format that cannot be opened natively on Windows, Linux, or Android devices. Users typically need access to the Apple ecosystem and an active MindNode Plus subscription to fully edit these files. Furthermore, they are completely unsupported by web browsers. Because the file functions internally as a macOS package or compressed archive rather than a standard flat file, traditional online converters almost always fail to process it.
To share mind maps across different platforms, you must convert the .MINDNODE file to universal formats. Exporting to OPML or MM (FreeMind) preserves the hierarchical text structure for use in competing mind-mapping tools, though proprietary visual styling is lost. For purely visual sharing, converting to PDF or PNG is ideal, while a simple MD (Markdown) or TXT export works best for plain text outlines.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert without an Apple device. Because it is a closed, proprietary package, only the original MindNode software can reliably render and export the visual data. If our analysis detects the embedded XML or JSON data inside the archive, viewing or conversion to an outline format may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MINDNODE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MINDNODE file to XMIND, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use MindNode or similar software from the "Mind Mapping and Brainstorming" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MINDNODE, try MindNode or another comparable tool in the "Mind Mapping and Brainstorming" category.
The MINDNODE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MINDNODE converter.
