About MF1 files

The .mf1 file extension is primarily associated with Cimatron (formerly 3D Systems, now Sandvik), a specialized CAD/CAM software suite used extensively for mold, die, and tool design. These files function as proprietary CAD model files that store complex 3D geometry, assembly structures, and manufacturing toolpaths.

The main challenge with .mf1 files is their vendor lock-in. They are binary, proprietary containers that cannot be opened by standard CAD tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or generic 3D viewers. Users typically encounter this file when retrieving archived manufacturing data or receiving design files from a mold maker, only to find their current software cannot read it.

To make the data usable, the file must be converted into a neutral exchange format. For high-fidelity editing and archiving, the best target is STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product model data), which preserves the 3D body and topology. For surface-based workflows, IGES is a robust alternative. If the goal is 3D printing or simple visualization, converting to STL is recommended. Note: A minority of .mf1 files may be legacy Autodesk Moldflow analysis files; these require the specific simulation software to view results.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MF1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted UDB, SDY and EMN files.

FAQ

The MF1 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MF1 converter.
