About MCX files
The .MCX extension represents a collision of two distinct professional worlds: legacy manufacturing and insurance estimation. Most commonly, an .MCX file is a Mastercam X part file, created by versions X through X9 of the industry-standard CNC software. These files contain proprietary vector geometry, toolpaths, and machine definitions used to cut metal and plastic. They are strictly proprietary; you cannot open them in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360 without first converting them.
Alternatively, if you work in property restoration, your .MCX file is likely an Xactimate Macro. Unlike standard ESX estimates, the .MCX format is a zipped container for automation logic - lists of line items and price operations used to speed up claim writing. Users often fail to open these because they attempt to double-click them like a document; instead, they must be strictly imported via the Data Transfer tool in Xactimate.
For Mastercam files, the goal is usually interoperability: converting legacy parts to STEP or IGES for modern 3D modeling, or DXF for 2D cutting. For Xactimate users, the goal is often integration or simply viewing the data without a $300/month subscription.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MCX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted MCX-5, MCX-9, MCX-7, MCX-8, MCX-6, MCAM, MCFX, MC2, DWG, DXF, PDF, MSCX and STL files.
FAQ
If you want to convert MCX file to STL, DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT or X_T, you can use Mastercam & Xactimate or similar software from the "CAD Geometry & Estimation Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to MCX, try Mastercam & Xactimate or another comparable tool in the "CAD Geometry & Estimation Data" category.
The MCX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MCX converter.
