Convert a file to MASK
To convert other file formats to the "Image Mask File" file type, you need software like ImageMagick or a similar tool.
About MASK files
A .mask file primarily stores image mask data used by ImageMagick to define read, write, or composite masks during command-line image processing. A secondary use is the discontinued Adobe SpeedGrade software, where .mask files saved specific color grading and isolation parameters for video editing.
The main disadvantage of the .mask format is its extreme lack of compatibility. Because it functions as a specialized backend configuration or a raw data stream rather than a standard image, you cannot preview a .mask file in default operating system viewers, web browsers, or standard photo editors. Furthermore, Adobe SpeedGrade was completely discontinued in 2017, meaning legacy color mask files are effectively locked behind obsolete, subscription-based software.
To view, share, or edit the visual data inside these files, you must convert them. For web use and transparency support, convert to PNG. For professional editing in Adobe Photoshop, convert to TIFF. For simple viewing, convert to JPG. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser - free, online, and without installing extra software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MASK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MASK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MASK converter.
