Convert a file to LZM

To convert other file formats to the "Linux Software Module" file type, you need software like Slax or a similar tool.

About LZM files

The .lzm file extension primarily represents a Slax Module, a specialized compressed package used by the portable Slax Linux distribution. These files are essentially read-only file systems (typically SquashFS compressed with LZMA) that allow users to "hot-plug" software into a running Slax environment without installing it permanently.

For most users, the challenge with .lzm files is their opacity outside of a Linux environment. Because they are binary filesystem images, you cannot simply double-click to open them in Windows or macOS. They are designed for execution, not inspection. Users often encounter these files when trying to recover data from a Slax boot drive or when attempting to extract specific drivers or scripts from a Linux package. Native editing is impossible; the file is a read-only block. To access the contents, you must convert or extract the module into a standard archive format like ZIP or TAR. Once converted, the internal directory structure (e.g., /usr, /bin) becomes accessible for viewing and editing on any operating system.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LZM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MJS, SEM and IML files.
