The .LGI file extension is primarily a Logic Gate Implementation file used to store digital logic circuits. These files are typically created and managed by Logisim, an open-source educational tool used to design and simulate digital circuits. A minority of .LGI files act as Multimedia Logic Files created by Softronics software.
The main disadvantage of the .LGI format is its highly specialized nature. You cannot open these files natively in web browsers or standard image viewers to see the circuit diagrams. They require a specific desktop application to run and simulate the logic gates. This creates friction when sharing circuit designs with clients, professors, or peers, as the recipient must install the exact simulation software to view the layout.
