Convert GCG to another file type
To convert your GCG file to another format, you need LogicCircuit or other Cad software.
Convert a file to GCG
To convert other file formats to the "Logic Gate Schematic" file type, you need software like LogicCircuit or a similar tool.
About GCG files
The .GCG extension typically refers to a Digital Logic Circuit file used by educational simulation software like LogicCircuit or Logisim. These XML-based files contain the architecture of digital logic gates (AND, OR, NOT), wires, and inputs used by students and engineers to simulate CPU designs. A significant issue is that .GCG files are strictly proprietary project files; they cannot be viewed in standard browsers or image editors, and attempting to open them in a text editor reveals raw XML code rather than the visual schematic. Users often need to convert these to PDF or PNG for technical documentation or homework submissions.
In scientific contexts (specifically bioinformatics), a .GCG file may be a Genetic Sequence Data file generated by the legacy Wisconsin Package (often called the GCG Package). These files store DNA or protein sequences with specific headers and check sums that modern tools like BLAST or Biopython may reject. Researchers must convert these legacy archives to the standard FASTA format to ensure compatibility with modern sequencing pipelines. Less common uses include Scrabble game logs (used by Woogles.io) or vector fonts for Galstar ISIS industrial printers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCG file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use LogicCircuit or similar software from the "Digital Logic Circuit Simulation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GCG, try LogicCircuit or another comparable tool in the "Digital Logic Circuit Simulation" category.
The GCG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCG converter.
