About LES files

The .LES file extension is a highly fragmented format. Most commonly, it functions as a Low-pass Exome Sequencing data file for cancer research conducted by The Cancer Genome Atlas. However, you will also encounter .LES files as game resource archives in the IL-2 Sturmovik flight simulator series, object scripts in the Cossacks strategy games, or even proprietary lesson files for Bentley STAAD.Pro and vintage VTech educational software. Because the .LES extension is shared across drastically different industries, it creates massive confusion for everyday users. A genomic .LES file might be hundreds of megabytes of raw text or binary sequences, requiring specialized bioinformatics pipelines to open. A game .LES file is usually a compressed archive or script, totally unusable outside the specific game engine. These are largely proprietary, closed-ecosystem formats. They are entirely unsupported by standard operating systems, text editors, or web browsers. Attempting to force them open usually causes crashes or displays unreadable characters. Converting a .LES file depends entirely on its true nature. Genomic data might theoretically be converted to standard BAM or VCF formats for broader analysis using specialized linux command-line tools. Game archives often require community-built modding extractors to pull out WAV audio or PNG textures. Standard online converters fail completely because they do not know which parsing engine to use. This is why this file format is incredibly difficult to open or convert blindly. Usually, only the original scientific pipeline or game engine can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru provides a practical workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LES file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LEVEL, BLC and LEV files.

The LES Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LES converter.
