A .LEV file is primarily a proprietary game level or map file. Because "level" is a generic gaming term, dozens of completely unrelated game engines use the .LEV extension to save custom maps, object placements, and terrain data. Common games using this format include Elasto Mania, Duck Game, Duke Nukem 3D, The Powder Toy, and the Techland Chrome Engine. A small percentage of .LEV files are also created by Solinst Levelogger software to store groundwater and surface water monitoring data.
The major disadvantage of .LEV files is their extreme fragmentation. A .LEV file from Duke Nukem 3D shares zero structural similarity with a .LEV file from RAN Online. They are heavily proprietary, closed formats. Standard text editors usually show gibberish because the data is compiled or compressed binary. You generally cannot open them unless you have the exact game or level editor that created them, meaning you are locked into that specific software ecosystem. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
