A .KZP file is primarily associated with HomeByMe, a cloud-based 3D interior design service originally developed by WanaPlan and now part of Dassault Systèmes. These files function as project archives, containing the geometric data, texture references, and layout coordinates for a home design.
The main drawback with .KZP files is their proprietary nature; they are effectively "locked" to the HomeByMe ecosystem. You cannot simply double-click to open them in standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or SketchUp, nor can you view them in a web browser without the specific application logic. This proprietary lock-in becomes a significant hurdle when you need to share floor plans with contractors, architects, or clients who do not have a HomeByMe account. Users often need to convert these files to universal formats like PDF for documentation, JPG/PNG for quick visual previews, or OBJ/STL for further 3D modeling.
A secondary, less common use (approx. 8%) for the .KZP extension is as a zipped project package for Kony Visualizer (now part of Temenos), a low-code mobile app development platform. In this context, the file is simply a ZIP archive containing source code and assets. For these files, changing the extension to ZIP allows for immediate extraction and inspection of the contents.
