The .KPG file extension is primarily encountered as a Kuaishou Video File generated by the wildly popular Kuaishou (Kwai) short-video app. Under the hood, these files are generally structured as RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format) containers. Alternatively, many .KPG files are simply standard JPEG digital photos created by certain digital cameras, mobile phones, or managed via software like XnView. Less commonly, the extension belongs to legacy graphic files from Kai's Power Goo, a novelty 1990s image-distortion software by MetaCreations, or edge-case Keynote presentations.
Opening .KPG files can be exceptionally frustrating because the extension does not give standard operating systems a clear clue about the file's contents. If it is a video, standard media players will refuse to play the proprietary .KPG extension, locking you into using the Kuaishou app to view your media. If it is a photo, web browsers and modern image editors will throw error messages because they expect standard extensions like JPG or PNG. Files from Kai's Power Goo are even worse, requiring obsolete Windows 95-era emulation to open. Users urgently need to convert .KPG to MP4 or AVI for video playback, and to JPG for image viewing.
