About KIN files

The .KIN file extension primarily represents scientific data, most often a Kinetics Spectrophotometry data file created by Shimadzu UVProbe or a molecular structure kinetic image for the KiNG Viewer. Other common uses include skeletal animation files for the Auran Trainz simulator. These files store highly specialized data. The disadvantage of the .KIN format is its proprietary nature. Scientific .KIN files often require a costly software license or connection to specific laboratory hardware to open. They are not supported by web browsers or standard data tools. Because lab equipment vendors lock their data, converting .KIN files directly is very difficult. If possible, export the data directly from the original software to a universal format like CSV or TXT for data analysis, or PDB for molecular models. Standard online converters fail to process .KIN files because the internal structure is closed and undocumented. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can inspect the binary file to extract text strings, helping you identify exactly which software created it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The KIN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KIN converter.
