About KDB files
The .KDB file extension is most commonly a KeePass Password Database created by KeePass 1.x, a legacy open-source password manager. It securely stores user credentials, including usernames, passwords, URLs, and notes. Secondary uses include GSKit Key Database files for IBM WebSphere or generic SQLITE databases. Because .KDB files are highly secure, proprietary databases protected by AES or Twofish encryption, they are famously difficult to handle outside their native applications. They require the correct master password or key file, meaning standard text editors or generic database browsers cannot read them. Users typically need to convert these files when migrating to a modern password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password. The most practical conversion targets are CSV or XML, which are widely accepted by other credential systems. Be aware that exporting to these formats permanently strips away all encryption, leaving your sensitive data in plain text. Because this is a closed, heavily encrypted format, standard online converters will always fail to process it. Generic tools simply cannot bypass cryptographic protection. We inspect the unencrypted file headers, and if our analysis detects an unencrypted variant such as a generic SQLite database or SolarWinds Jet Database, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KDB file to JKS, P12, PEM, KDBX, PFX, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF or ODB, you can use KeePass or similar software from the "Encrypted Password Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to KDB, try KeePass or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted Password Database" category.
The KDB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KDB converter.
