A .JPE file is a raster image format identical to standard JPEG or JPG files. Despite sharing the same underlying data structure as a standard JPEG, the .JPE extension introduces real-world friction. Additionally, the format suffers from generational degradation: every time you edit and save a .JPE, compression artifacts increase, permanently destroying pixel data. The format also lacks support for an alpha channel, meaning you cannot use transparent backgrounds.
