About JIG files
The .JIG file extension serves three completely different purposes, which causes frequent confusion. Most commonly, it is a proprietary game data file used by GameHouse for their Jigsaw Puzzle Creator software. Alternatively, it stores character animation data for the 3D animation software MikuMikuDance (MMD). Finally, Reconyx trail cameras (like the HyperFire 360) use the .JIG extension to save wildlife photos.
The main disadvantage of .JIG files is their strict lock-in. Game and animation files require specific, sometimes outdated software to open and cannot be viewed in web browsers or on mobile devices. Reconyx trail camera files are particularly frustrating because they are actually standard JPG images hidden behind a custom extension to force users into using specific management software.
For trail camera images, convert your files to JPG or WebP for web use, or PNG for lossless editing. Game save states and MMD animation data cannot be converted to standard document formats easily. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
