About IVD files

The .IVD file extension represents multiple highly fragmented data formats. It is primarily used as a data container for specialized systems. Typical use cases include French census and tax data managed by INSEE, vehicle CAN data logs from Bosch hardware, meter interval data from the Itron Field Collection System, I-V curve measurements from Keithley equipment, and SCADA project files. Interestingly, it is also used by the Bhaktivedanta Archives Vedabase as a standard SQLite database, and by Bitdefender for incremental virus definition updates. To properly open or convert these files, you generally need the specific hardware companion software, such as a Bosch diagnostic tool or a Keithley Source Measure Unit.

Because the .IVD extension is shared by at least seven entirely different proprietary systems, these files are notoriously difficult for users to manage. The format is closed, heavily fragmented, and lacks standardized documentation. You cannot simply open an .IVD log in a spreadsheet or standard text editor without seeing scrambled characters. The heavy reliance on specific hardware or government software means that traditional file converters completely fail to parse the binary data. If you need to analyze the data, you must normally export it directly from the original system.

The best conversion targets for log-based .IVD files are CSV or TXT, which make the data readable in Microsoft Excel or statistical software. For database-variant files, extracting the tables to standard DB or SQL formats is the ideal approach. However, exporting to these formats usually results in the loss of proprietary metadata and charting configurations native to the source hardware.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because there is no universal standard for its internal structure. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail to process it. Our platform inspects the underlying binary or text structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IVD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TST, TED and BEF files.

The IVD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IVD converter.
