About IPX files

The .IPX file extension primarily represents an IPIX interactive panoramic image, a legacy format that stores 360-degree virtual tour photography. In a secondary use case (roughly 14% of files), it functions as an I-CUBE Presentation Exchange file, which is a digital broadcasting presentation package storing compressed XML data. Historically, panoramic .IPX files were viewed using the proprietary IPIX Viewer or specialized virtual tour software like those offered by Kolor, while I-CUBE files require Insight Publisher. Users typically need to convert .IPX files because the formats are overwhelmingly obsolete and highly restrictive. IPIX Corporation ceased operations years ago, meaning modern web browsers and standard image editors cannot open these panoramas natively, leaving users locked out of their own 360-degree photos. For panoramas, the best conversion targets are standard JPG or PNG formats. Be aware that converting to a static image permanently destroys the interactive, click-and-drag 360-degree capability, flattening the file into an equirectangular projection. For I-CUBE packages, extracting to standard ZIP or XML is the ideal solution to recover the broadcasting data. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert due to its closed, proprietary nature. IPIX utilized aggressive patents and obfuscation to lock their image data, meaning standard online converters fail because they lack the proprietary algorithms to decode the binary structure. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the visual data. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its raw contents, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects the underlying ZIP archive used in I-CUBE files, viewing or conversion to accessible formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPEG, JPG, CPT and HEIC files.

The IPX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IPX converter.
