About IPX files

The .IPX extension is most frequently associated with IPIX (Internet Pictures Corporation) 360-degree panoramic images. These files were the industry standard for virtual real estate tours in the late 1990s and early 2000s. An .IPX file typically contains two hemispherical (fisheye) JPEG images stitched together seamlessly to create an immersive spherical view. However, the format is now considered obsolete and highly problematic for modern users.

Because IPIX files relied on proprietary ActiveX controls or Java applets (IPIX Viewer) that are blocked by modern web browsers, these files are effectively "locked" and unviewable on Windows 10/11 or macOS without specific conversion tools. Users typically need to convert them into standard equirectangular .JPG images to view them in modern 360 viewers (like Facebook 360 or generic VR players).

Secondary Use: A smaller percentage of .IPX files are Insight Publisher presentation packages created by I-CUBE. These are simply renamed ZIP archives containing XML data and media assets. If your file is not an image, you can often access the contents by renaming the extension from .IPX to ZIP.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPEG, JPG, CPT and HEIC files.
