Convert IMN to another file type

To convert IMN Emulator files to another format, you need CORE Network Emulator or other Data software.

Convert a file to IMN

To convert other file formats to the "Network Simulation Configuration" file type, you need software like CORE Network Emulator or a similar tool.

About IMN files

The .IMN file extension is primarily a network topology simulation file used by the CORE (Common Open Research Emulator) software. These files contain detailed virtual network configurations, including nodes (routers, switches, PCs), data links, and IPv4/IPv6 addressing schemes. A secondary use for .IMN is as an animated email notifier for the now-defunct IncrediMail client.

Working with .IMN files presents distinct disadvantages in modern workflows. The CORE variants are highly domain-specific, often written as custom TCL scripts that only function inside the original emulator framework. You cannot directly share these files with colleagues for viewing unless they also have CORE installed. For the IncrediMail variants, the software was permanently shut down in 2020, making these proprietary animation archives practically unusable without specialized extraction tools.

When handling CORE network topologies, the best conversion targets are TXT, JSON, or XML for readable documentation, or visual formats like PNG and SVG if you need a static map for a presentation. For IncrediMail files, extracting the internal assets to GIF, JPG, or MP4 is the only way to recover the legacy animations.

Because .IMN files are either highly specialized network scripts or legacy, closed-source archives, standard online converters completely fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly parse the network data or render the animations.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IMN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PHO, TST and CGP files.

FAQ

If you want to convert IMN file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use CORE Network Emulator or similar software from the "Network Topology Simulation" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to IMN, try CORE Network Emulator or another comparable tool in the "Network Topology Simulation" category.

The IMN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IMN converter.
