Extract text from ILG files
To convert your ILG file to another format, you need InstallShield or other System software.
To convert other file formats to the "Log File" file type, you need software like InstallShield or a similar tool.
The .ILG extension primarily refers to the InstallShield Installation Log, a record generated by software installers created with InstallShield. These files track the success or failure of installation steps, file copying, and registry modifications. While essential for debugging failed installs, they often utilize the Microsoft Compound binary format, meaning they are not always human-readable in standard text editors like Notepad++. Users often struggle to decipher the proprietary structure without specific log viewers. Converting these logs to TXT or PDF flattens the data into a readable, searchable format for troubleshooting or documentation.
Alternatively, in enterprise archiving environments, an .ILG file may be an ImageLink Graphics file used by IBM Content Manager OnDemand. This is a legacy raster format often used for storing bank check images or scanned documents. The major limitation here is severe software lock-in; modern image viewers and web browsers cannot display ImageLink files. To make these documents accessible, the only practical solution is converting them to standard formats. For document archiving, convert to .PDF/A; for web integration or general viewing, convert to JPG or TIFF.
