About ISU files
The .ISU file extension represents an InstallShield Uninstall Script, a critical system log generated automatically when software is installed on Windows. Unlike documents you create yourself, this file acts as a detailed "receipt" for the installation process, recording every file path, registry key, and shortcut created by the installer. Its primary purpose is to allow the Add or Remove Programs utility to cleanly uninstall the software later.
Users typically encounter these files when cleaning up old program folders or when an uninstallation fails. A common point of friction is the inability to open them: they are often proprietary binary files or strictly formatted text that standard editors render as gibberish. Furthermore, because of the visual similarity between .ISU and ISO, many users mistakenly attempt to mount them as disk images or burn them to DVDs, which is impossible.
For most users, "converting" an .ISU file means extracting its readable contents to TXT to identify which software it belongs to. If you are trying to archive the file, converting it to a standard PDF log can preserve the data without the risk of accidentally breaking an active uninstaller. Warning: Deleting or modifying an .ISU file while the corresponding software is still installed will permanently break the uninstallation process, forcing you to manually hunt down leftover files.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ISU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted RUL, BOOT and ISS files.
The ISU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ISU converter.
