About IGN files

The .IGN file is primarily a configuration file used by Ignitech programmable ignition systems to store engine ignition curve data. These files dictate the exact timing of spark plugs based on engine RPM and throttle position, which is critical for optimizing engine performance on motorcycles and custom builds. A secondary, less common use (about 0.9% of files) is as a RoboHelp Ignore List File used by Adobe RoboHelp to store words skipped by the spelling checker.

To safely open and edit the ignition curve data, you must use Ignitech Key Master software (such as TCIP4 or DCCDIP), which connects directly to the hardware module. Users often need to convert these files to share mapping data across different engine management systems or to analyze the spark timing curves in a standard spreadsheet. The main disadvantage of the .IGN format is its highly proprietary nature. It requires specialized Windows-only software to open, making it impossible to natively view the data on mobile devices, Macs, or within standard graphing applications.

The ideal target formats for analyzing this data are plain text or spreadsheet files like CSV, TXT, or XLSX. Converting to these formats allows tuners to overlay maps and calculate timing deltas. However, this file format is difficult to open or convert because the data structure is closed, proprietary, and designed exclusively for Ignitech's unique hardware ecosystem. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.

Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. We can identify the format, inspect the binary file, and show extractable text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IGN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IGC, JPEG, HAT, XDC and TF files.

FAQ

If you want to convert IGN file to SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID, IMG or DEM, you can use Ignitech Key Master or similar software from the "Ignition System Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The IGN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IGN converter.
