About IGN files
The .IGN file extension primarily serves as a configuration data container for Ignitech programmable ignition units (ECUs). These files store critical engine management parameters, including the ignition advance curve, throttle position sensor (TPS) maps, dwell times, and revolution limiters. Enthusiasts typically use these files to tune vintage motorcycles and performance engines using units like the Sparker TCIP4 or DCCDI.
The key problem for .IGN files is their proprietary nature. They are binary configuration dumps that act as a "black box" unless you have the specific Ignitech Windows utility matching your hardware version. You cannot simply double-click to view the data in Microsoft Excel or a text editor, making it difficult to share tuning curves on forums or analyze engine data without the specific software installed. Additionally, old versions of the software may struggle to run on modern operating systems like Windows 11.
To overcome these limitations, users often convert .IGN files to CSV or XLSX to graph ignition curves in spreadsheet software. For archiving setup documentation, converting to PDF ensures the settings are viewable on mobile devices or printed for a workshop manual. A secondary, less common use of the extension is for Adobe RoboHelp Ignore Lists, which contain words excluded from spell-checking. These are simple text structures and should be converted to TXT to be human-readable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IGN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IGN file to SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID, IMG or DEM, you can use Ignitech Suite or similar software from the "Engine ECU Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The IGN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IGN converter.
