About IF files

A .if file is a chameleon - it most likely belongs to one of two completely different worlds: a JSON-based calligraphy project or a TIFF-based scanned image.

1. Indic Calligraphy Project (39%): Generated by Indic Fonts IF Studio, these files store vector stroke data, glyph configurations, and metadata in a plain text JSON structure. Constraint: Because they are raw data files, you cannot simply double-click to view the artwork. You must use the proprietary studio software to render them or convert them to SVG for general use.

2. InfoWeave Scanned Image (20%): In legacy document management systems like InfoWeave, standard TIFF images were often saved with the .if extension. Friction Point: Modern photo viewers (like Windows Photos or Mac Preview) often fail to recognize the extension, displaying a "File not supported" error even though the underlying data is a standard image.

3. NEXON Configuration (10%): Game launchers for titles like MapleStory use these for initialization settings.

The IF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IF converter.
