About IDK files
An .IDK file is an iTWO project exchange file created by RIB Software. It stores 5D Building Information Modeling (BIM) data, construction estimates, and project schedules. Construction professionals use this format to transfer complex project data between different systems. The main disadvantage of the .IDK format is that it is highly proprietary. It requires an expensive, specialized enterprise license for iTWO to open and read properly. Standard web browsers and basic text editors cannot read the 3D models or cost tables inside. This creates a severe lock-in effect for external contractors who just need to see the raw data. Beneath the surface, an .IDK file is simply a ZIP archive containing compressed XML files. The best workaround is to convert or extract the file to ZIP or XML. You will lose the visual 3D elements and structured software interface, but you will gain access to the raw text data. Because this file format uses a closed, proprietary data schema, standard online converters usually fail to process it.
