The .idc file extension serves several distinct technical purposes. Most commonly, it is an Interactive Disassembler (IDA) Script file used by IDA Pro to automate reverse-engineering tasks. Another major use case is the PJe (Processo Judicial Eletrônico) system, where .IDC functions as a renamed ZIP archive containing judicial database updates in SQL format. It is also used as an Ibeo Data Container for automotive sensor data, and as cache files for Agilent ChemStation or Microsoft Outlook.
Opening these files natively is often expensive or frustrating. IDA Pro requires a costly commercial license. The automotive and chemical sensor formats (Ibeo, Agilent) are proprietary and bound to highly specific hardware. PJe update files are not recognized by standard archive tools until they are renamed. These formats are generally useless for sharing, web hosting, or quick viewing.
To bypass these restrictions, conversion is necessary. For IDA scripts, converting to standard TXT or C files makes the code readable in any text editor.
