About ICB files

The .ICB file extension handles several completely different data types, making it highly frustrating for users who receive it without context. Primarily, it functions as an ICM Binary Chemical File used in molecular modeling projects via Molsoft ICM. These proprietary files hold complex 3D chemical structures and sequences but are completely inaccessible without an expensive software license. Because they are closed-source, sharing molecular data with non-Molsoft users is virtually impossible. Alternatively, an .ICB file might act as a Contract Workflow Blueprint for the legal platform Ironclad. These files package contract templates and metadata. Fortunately, they are standard ZIP archives under the hood. If you cannot access Ironclad, you are locked out of the blueprint unless you extract it. In older video games like Icewind Dale, .ICB represents an Interactive Composition Buffer audio file structured as a RIFF container, while in older graphic environments, it serves as a Targa ICB Bitmap. Neither of these legacy formats is supported by modern web browsers or default operating system media players. To bypass these severe compatibility limits, you must convert the file.
