About IAVATAR files
The .iavatar file format stores fully rigged 3D character models for Reallusion iClone and Character Creator. These files contain the polygon mesh, skeletal rig, materials, high-resolution textures, and complex facial morph data (blendshapes) necessary for professional animation.
The primary disadvantage of the .iavatar format is that it is highly proprietary and strictly locked to the Reallusion ecosystem. It cannot be opened natively by web browsers, standard 3D suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya, or game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine. Users often face steep paywalls, requiring expensive software licenses just to view the 3D model.
To make the character usable elsewhere, you must convert the .iavatar file to industry-standard formats. FBX is the best target for preserving the skeletal rig and animation data for game engines. OBJ is useful if you only need the static 3D mesh, while GLTF or GLB is ideal for web-based AR/VR viewing. Be aware that proprietary shader networks or specific morph targets may be lost or baked during export.
Because .iavatar is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original Reallusion software can properly read or export the 3D data. Just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or limited conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IAVATAR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IAVATAR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IAVATAR converter.
