The .IAP file extension serves two entirely different, highly specialized technical purposes. Primarily, it functions as an Automotive CAN firmware update file used to flash engine control units (ECUs). These files are managed by hardware interface tools like IO-Terminal and STM32CubeProgrammer. Alternatively, .IAP files contain Instrument Approach Procedure data used in aviation and flight simulation software, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator or systems powered by Jeppesen navdata.
