About FWP files

The .FWP file extension is most commonly associated with a Firmware Upgrade Package used by hardware manufacturers, predominantly Kyocera Document Solutions. These files contain the necessary binary code, system instructions, and security certificates required to update the internal software of printers, copiers, and network devices. A smaller percentage of .FWP files belong to the discontinued Microsoft Expression Web Package format, used to bundle website templates and assets. To deploy a Kyocera firmware update, administrators typically use Kyocera Net Viewer. For the legacy web packages, you would use Microsoft Expression Web. Users usually encounter major challenges when handling .FWP files outside of their native environments. Firmware packages are proprietary, highly specific to device models, and often encrypted or packaged in obscure archive formats. You cannot simply open them with a standard text editor or web browser. The primary disadvantage of this format is its closed ecosystem; modifying the contents of a firmware update usually breaks cryptographic signatures, rendering the file useless or risking a hardware device failure. Standard online converters fail to process .FWP files because they are not standard documents or media files. You cannot convert a firmware package into a PDF or JPG. However, some generic .FWP files are simply renamed ZIP archives containing BIN or XML data. Extracting the contents to ZIP is the most practical workaround for reverse-engineering or inspecting the update payloads. Because these files are system-level archives, they are notoriously difficult to open or convert using standard tools. Often, only the original flashing software can properly interpret the update sequence. Despite these barriers, convert.guru offers a practical solution. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like a standard ZIP container, viewing the internal files or extracting the data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FWP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FFWP, HWP, WFP, ZIP and WUI files.

The FWP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FWP converter.
